Employee Centre Application Server Licensing

Overview

Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Server 2013 SP1 is the recommended version to run Sparkrock Employee Center as it takes advantage of existing Microsoft Windows Server CAL (Client Access License), not requiring the purchase of additional licenses. As long as a user is licensed with a windows account, no additional license is required for Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Server 2013 SP1. Given the integration of the Employee Centre with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, a user also requires the appropriate licensing for NAV to be able to use Employee Centre. Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2013 SP1 is also supported but requires additional licensing.

If a user has a valid Window Server CAL (Client Access License) no additional licensing is needed.

While Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2013 SP1 does offer user CALs, they are only practical if the server is not internet facing, which is not the intent of Employee Center. For internet facing SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 instances the licensing system simplifies SharePoint access and use. This is because SharePoint Server 2013 collapses internal and external use under a single licensing offering/model. If using Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2013 SP1 user CALs are not required, however a server license per running instance is necessary.

In an internet facing Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2013 SP1 scenario, the only license requirement is for each Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2013 SP1 instance with no CALs.
