Database Server

The database components for Microsoft Dynamics NAV are stored on Microsoft SQL Database Servers. Both physical and virtual hosted servers are supported.

Hardware Requirements

The following section shows the minimum hardware system requirements for Microsoft SQL Servers running Sparkrock’s Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 database components:

8 Gigabytes (8GB)

12GB+ depending on the expected number of concurrent users

Disk

NTFS formatted partition with a minimum of 25 GB of free space

NTFS formatted partition with 100 GB of free space depending on expected database growth

Software Requirements

The following section shows the minimum software system requirements for Microsoft SQL Servers running Sparkrock’s Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 database components:

Operating system

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017’s database components for Microsoft SQL Server run on the following 64-bit operating system editions:

  • Windows Server 2016 R2 Standard, Essentials or Datacenter Editions

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Essentials Editions

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard or Essentials Editions

  • Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise or Education Editions

  • Windows 8, 8.1 Professional or Enterprise Editions

SQL Server

The database components run on the following versions and editions of SQL Server:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard or Enterprise (64-bit Edition)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard or Enterprise (64-bit Edition)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 Standard or Enterprise (64-bit Editions)

  • Azure SQL Database V12 Standard and Premium service tiers

If the operating system on the target computer does not support SQL Server 2012 SP2, the Setup will display a prerequisite warning. In this case, you should exit Setup and then update the operating system on the computer to one that does support SQL Server 2012 SP2 and retry the setup process again.
